MapleWood Farm was established in 1879 in the corn belt of central Indiana. Through the years, the farm has raised corn, soybeans, wheat, cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, and horses. It was established with orchards and vegetable gardens, but like most farms, it has transitioned to grain only. This family farm has always been great stewards of the land, but how sustainable can farms like this continue to be?
Soil health is nothing like it was before the land was first tilled. Current agriculture practices can not be sustainable.
MapleWood Labs asks "Is there a better way to feed the world?"
We are researching past scientific studies on nutrition and using the scientific facts for future studies and horticulture planning.
We are studying the environmental impact of all processes and products in the current agricultural industry, from field prep
to consumer purchase.
We will use our research to develop new agriculture practices and products to preserve our planet and humanity.
We are just starting our journey. Currently we are in our research phase. We are researching scientific studies done on nutrition, foods, and environmental impacts from agriculture.
Studying the environmental changes can help us predict the future of agriculture.
We will use this research and data to hypothesize future agricultural methods and products. We will begin selective breeding and gene modifications to create desired plant genetics for future needs.
We plan to work with universities to coordinate research efforts. We plan to build programs with organizations like 4H and FFA to educate and promote awareness of the future of agriculture and agricultural sciences.
Our passion is to protect the environment for the future of our planet. Up until now, progress in agriculture has been based on making processes easier, creating higher yields, making plants more aesthetic, and increasing profits. We understand and appreciate the progress of the last 75 years in agriculture. The last 25 have seen the start of gene modifications and progress has come a long way. We feel that with today's sciences we will make this type of progress of the last 25 years in just a year's time.
MapleWood Labs is different because our first objective when modifying crops will be the need of the crop for human nutrition along with its environmental impact to get to market.
This long term goal of true sustainable agriculture and stewardship of the planet is what sets us apart.
We at MapleWood Labs are also committed to scientific ethics and risk management. Just because we can genetically modify plans doesn't mean we should react to ideas without considering the long term effects of making these changes.
Think about what truly interests you. Dream of what is and what can be without social influences.
Respects other opinions and beliefs, but question everything and be inquisitive for the truth.
Life is short. Give back and give love to the people around you. Maybe they will pay it forward.
Cherish your surroundings, spend time in nature, look up to the stars and self-reflect, your time on earth is short. Enjoy it while you can and leave it better for the next generation.
The only things worth doing are doing them well. Take the time and focus on what is important to you. Make a list and get it done.
We are capable of more together. We can each reach our full potential as individuals when we collaborate and learn from each other.
Following others makes you like the others. Stand out by doing you.
Life is hard, find what is important to you. And do it!
